The hotel, known for its avant-garde style and commitment to art and culture, will host works by 45 artists starting September 28, with a very special challenge: exploring the fascinating element of “The Salt of Ibiza.”
September 2024. OD Hotels presents the seventh edition of its renowned OD Art Awards next Friday, September 27 at the idyllic Ocean Drive Talamanca Hotel, in collaboration with IbizaArt Guide. The event, which has become a key point in the cultural life of Ibiza, highlights the union between art, culture, and sustainability, presenting a very special challenge to the artists: exploring the fascinating world of “The Salt of Ibiza,” an element steeped in Ibiza’s history.
Ibiza and salt have a relationship that dates back centuries. From the ancient salt flats that date back to the Phoenician era to the present day, salt has been a symbol of prosperity and an essential resource for the island. This new edition aims to pay homage to it by inviting artists to immerse themselves in its world, exploring its meaning, shapes, uses, and everything it represents.
The choice of theme could not be more appropriate. Salt is not only an ingredient in our kitchens; it is a symbol of life itself, of the earth and the sea that surround Ibiza. The artists, with their creativity and unique vision, will have the opportunity to capture the essence of salt from multiple perspectives: as a natural element, as part of Ibiza’s cultural identity, or as a metaphor for purity, preservation, and change. The artistic possibilities are endless.
This year, the OD Art Awards will feature 45 artists, each with their own approach and style. These 45 spots, which sold out in less than a week, reflect the great interest and relevance of the competition in Ibiza’s current art scene. From painters to sculptors, photographers, and digital artists, each will bring their unique vision of “The Salt of Ibiza.”
The variety of techniques and styles promises a diverse and nuanced exhibition, keeping the team and organization in great anticipation, speculating on the different ways salt can be represented: from salt landscapes reflecting the island’s natural beauty to more abstract interpretations playing with textures and colors evoking the sea and the land.
The exhibition is open to the public, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy the talent and creativity of the 45 selected artists.
Some artists participating in this edition: Cristina Ferrer, Sohar Villegas, and Anthony Gofer. The jury will include: Juan Costa (Insular Tourism Director), Elena Ruiz (Director of the Museu d’Art Contemporani d’Eivissa), and Carmen Cardona (Culture Technician of the Ibiza City Council).
