THE AMPARO'S COLOURS

Exhibition info

In the exhibition "The colours of Amparo", the artist presents a careful selection of works made over the last four years. The exhibition includes a series dedicated to the four seasons spring, summer, autumn and winter, as well as pieces that have been part of competitions and exhibitions organised by the Hotel OD Talamanca. Also on display are works published in the 2024 and 2025 editions of Ibizartguide magazine, along with four creations of a symbolic nature. In total, the exhibition brings together 16 watercolours in different formats that reflect the evolution, sensitivity and personal view of the artist.

Artist biography

María Amparo López Gómez was born in Madrid on 6 February 1952 and currently lives in Santa Eulària des Riu, in Ibiza. Her connection with painting began as a self-taught painter when she was a teenager, but it was not until her retirement, more than a decade ago, that she devoted herself more consistently to watercolour, a discipline she practises on a daily basis. In 2017 she started the project Homenaje a las pintoras naíf de Ibiza en los años 70, which she will present in May at the Centro Cultural de Jesús. Her artistic training includes classes at the Centro Cultural Julio Cortázar and at the Centro de Mayores Dehesa de la Villa in Madrid, as well as online courses and at the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de España, where she has worked with renowned teachers such as Pablo de la Osa, Aurora Charlo, Javier Fuentes and Ángeles de la Borbolla.

He has participated in numerous group exhibitions both in person and virtually, including the World Watercolour Day at the Casa de Vacas de la Arganzuela (Madrid), several competitions organised by the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de España and artistic events promoted by the Hotel OD Talamanca, such as the OD Art Awards. In 2024, his project was featured with a full page in IbizArt magazine, and one of his works was selected for the IbizArtGuide group exhibition at the Centro Cultural de Jesús.

His technique is mainly based on the use of wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolour, working with high quality materials: 300 gram ARCHES paper, Winsor & Newton professional pigments, ESCODA brushes (Perla and Aquario lines), and anti-reflective glass to frame his pieces. His work stands out for the sensitivity in the use of colour, the dedication to craftsmanship and an honest approach that connects with the Mediterranean and local spirit.
