Strata of the soul

Exhibition info
Every person is the result of countless layers.

Some are visible: the face, the gaze, the gestures with which we present ourselves to the world. Others remain hidden: memory, experiences, emotions, wounds, and all that time deposits within us.

Estratos del Alma is born from the idea that identity is not fixed, but a process of constant transformation. Each artwork explores that space where the lived, the imagined and the inherited coexist. The layers of paint, the transparencies, the material and the symbols do not hide the image; they reveal the journey that has constructed it.

References to various cultural traditions, mysticism and spirituality are part of this journey. They do not appear as an aesthetic resource, but as expressions of a legacy that continues to inhabit our way of understanding the world and ourselves. They are also strata that shape our identity.

Each work invites us to look beyond the surface and discover that who we are never equates to a single story, but rather to the superposition of many lives, memories, beliefs, and experiences.

Because we are all a sum of strata... And perhaps the soul is nothing more than all that remains between them...

Artist biography
Andrés Orzaez (Valencia, Spain) is a visual artist based in Ibiza since 2003. Trained in Fine Arts by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, his work explores human identity through portraiture and symbolism, establishing a dialogue between figurative tradition and the diverse cultural influences that have shaped his career.

For almost two decades, they have developed a solid career in the world of tattooing, a discipline in which they have built their own language based on black and grey realism and the integration of ornamental elements. The experience of working on skin as an artistic medium has profoundly influenced their way of conceiving imagery, the body, and the meaning of symbols.
The seasons he spent working as a tattoo artist in New York also expanded his visual imagination, incorporating the energy and aesthetic of contemporary urban art into his visual language.

His continuous travels through Asia have played a fundamental role in the evolution of his work. The encounter with its spiritual traditions, religious iconography, mystical thought, and aesthetic richness has profoundly enriched his creative universe, integrating these influences from a personal perspective to reflect on memory, transformation, and the construction of identity.

In this exhibition, Andrés Orzaez presents a series of portraits in which realism coexists with an elaborate symbolic language. Influences from classical painting, tattooing, urban art, and Oriental iconography converge in them, giving rise to works that invite the viewer to look beyond appearances to discover the cultural, emotional, and spiritual layers that make up the individual.
