Exhibition information
Grapazul is an exhibition of blue outlining black holes. Brush strokes and stapled pieces that are articulated around a nothingness that opens up like an impossible dimension of being.
Fish in the air or characters who walk in lines that lead nowhere or who support themselves from their solitude with a gaze that looks into the gaze of the spectator.
Painting as a line drawn by the brush and a cut that leaves a hole, a manifestation of the Real.
A real that escapes all representation, that becomes present in its absence and that looks at us from the canvas and questions us about our own unconscious desire, becoming a symptom of both the artist and the observer as interpreters of an event that is at the same time an encounter and a misencounter, like the work that deals with the imaginary construction of a motorway that takes us from Barcelona to Buenos Aires.
All in blue with staples, which, in a chaotic dance, are not there to stitch up wounds but as an invitation to dis(e)order.
Artist biography
Daniel E. Schoffer Kraut was born in Buenos Aires and emigrated to Madrid in 1974 where he settled and developed his professional activity as a psychoanalyst.
His encounter with painting was late and totally experimental.
One day he came across the easel, the blank canvases, the oils and the brushes that his father had left him and, as a self-taught artist, he set about the task of investigating what he could do with these inherited objects.
He discovered in painting a way of expressing himself that went beyond the symbolic and after a period of free expression he began to see his difficulties and inadequacies in the brushstroke.
With the master Juan de la Peña he learned drawing, perspective and the use of colour.
This is his second exhibition in Madrid and his first solo exhibition.
