Artist biography
As promised, a little bit about me:
A little bit of history about me
I am a German photographer born in Krefeld, grew up in the Ahr valley, lived in Heidelberg and now in Ibiza. At the age of 13, after saving for a long time, I bought my first SLR camera with three fixed focal lengths and gained experience with light and contrast. Two years later, I opened my own black and white photo lab.
After completing my training in electrical engineering (I was 20 years old at the time), I gave up photography and went on to study computer science at the University of Applied Sciences in Worms.
During my studies, I founded my own business with a friend (intasoft-datentechnik GmbH) and we built the first IBM-compatible PCs in Germany using parts from Taiwan. In 1990 I founded my second company (Sof/Tec Immobiliensoftware GmbH) and developed the first software for real estate appraisers. From 1997 to 2000 I studied real estate valuation at the University of Freiburg.
In 2005 I discovered my old hobby of photography on the island of Ibiza. I used my experience in analogue photography and lab work and transformed it into a modern digital form.
My goal was to sell everything when I was 50 and move to Ibiza to work solely in photography. At 52 I achieved my goal and at 54 I met my Ibizan wife, Antonella.
What inspires me
For me it's nature. It's like fishing, peace and quiet. But sometimes it's also fun. My best pictures were taken during breaks from filming, when the actual task was no longer important.
What I like about photography
It is creativity, peace in nature and sometimes the tendency towards perfection through technology.
Techniques and style
I work a lot with nodal point technology (see image name "Node...").
I will try to explain:
You will need a stable tripod and a nodal adapter. With the nodal adapter the camera can be rotated in all directions at the nodal point (where the light on the camera (lens) is reduced to a point).
For example, the image of the naked yoga couple on the rock, this image was created in three series of images (5 x 10 images). Thus, five portrait images on top of each other and ten images side by side, similar to a panoramic photograph. With this technique, the focus can be re-selected for each individual image. Subsequently, a complete image with a very high resolution was calculated on the PC from 50 individual images (a series). The advantage of this technology is the virtually lossless printing of large formats that fill the wall, i.e. even the smallest details are clearly visible at high magnification.
It is important to plan the location, the weather and the exact time (sun path) to avoid irritation.
