The Hotel España has 82 bright and cosy rooms in a contemporary style. We are currently immersed in a transformation process that will mark a new stage of the hotel, in which we will reconnect with its original essence. Little by little we will be recovering the modernist legacy of the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner: the intense burgundy tones, the rich velvets and the spirit of Art Nouveau will return, reflected in furniture with organic shapes and details full of character.

Get to know its history

The history of the Hotel España begins in 1859 with the opening of the Fonda España, an establishment that soon became a social and cultural meeting point in the heart of Barcelona. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was extensively renovated, giving rise to one of the greatest exponents of Catalan Modernisme and consolidating its artistic and architectural character.

For decades, its lounges and common areas welcomed artists and intellectuals who found here a place for conversation, creation and social life. Today, this legacy lives on through unique heritage elements such as the alabaster fireplace in the Arnau Room, the frescoes in the Sirens Room, the original marble basin from 1859 and historic courtyards such as the Pati de les Monges or the Pati Bon Dia i Bona Nit.

With 82 rooms and a careful refurbishment, the España Ocean Drive Hotel continues to write its history, keeping alive its essence as a cultural, social and architectural space of reference in the city.

Gastronomy with Identity

Our restaurant, Fonda España, is a tribute to the traditional fondas, masterfully reinterpreted by chef Martín Berasategui. His proposal combines traditional cuisine with innovation and contemporary sensibility. At the helm of the kitchen, chef Edu Rodas leads a team committed to flavour, technique and respect for local produce.
