Street Art in Ibiza
OD Art Local
Based on this ethos, the BLOOP International Proactive Art Festival by Biokip Labs has been completely free ever since its pilot edition back in 2011, encouraging the proactivity of a universal audience through arts. Renowned for its Street Art side that holds numerous murals and openair installations, the festival extends to multiple disciplines and activities, such as video mappings, music installations, paintings, sculptures, photography, workshops for children, music, and parties. For the last edition, which extended along the seaside promenade to the old marine clinic at the end, the entire Ibiza harbour went BLOOP. Its headquarters was the former clinic that was deserted during recent years. It held an exposition that stressed the increasingly crucial role played by technology in the arts, showcasing a meta-virtual reality installation that connected the two worlds (virtual and physical), interactive installations, intelligent interactive light installations, an open-air street fiesta in Sa Torreta and more. This avant-garde project that marries art and people has nourished some of the most culturally and architecturally degraded zones with arts & culture and become a gentrification program for an entire city.
It introduced a new Ibiza, an island traditionally renowned for its crystal blue beaches, outdoor sports and nightlife. It raised the heights of these epicentres of cheap tourism by introducing a cultural alternative that was completely free until the local authorities changed and refused at all costs to support the Festival. Up to a point where a mural on a school`s wall addressing the issue of bullying was censored due to its inappropriateness. It was time to change.
The festival`s soul has moved to Eivissa town from 2017, uniting the historical world heritage site with avant-garde arts. Biokip Labs, the creative studio that specialises in interior design, manufacturing, interactive installations, and other creative services, produces and organises the entire festival on its own. It goes to great lengths to offer this event to everybody that welcomes internationally famed artists.
The BLOOP sprinkles and spreads waves of colours across the White Isle. It represents why many of us fell in love with this isle: openness, tolerance, creativity, friendliness, and accessibility. Coming for more in summer 2019.
